It’s time for another doll to return as well, now that Shinku’s here. It’s the black angel herself, Suigintou. And while she’s a bit toned down compared to before, she’s still the seductive, mean onee-san from before.
It starts off with yet another doll book coming by the mail, but Shinku warns Jun(old) that it might be a trap from the 7th doll Kirakishou. But on his way back, Suigintou appears through the bathroom and constantly has fits with Shinku. Jun manages to stop them from ruining his apartment, but can’t seem to solve their differences. And if you’ve seen previous Rozen Maiden, you know that these are sworn rivals.
Nevertheless, her introduction is similar to Shinku in that her personality is slightly different. Yes I know that they purposefully made Suigintou as a villain compared to the manga, but even then her threat level seems turned down. Other than calling Shinku ugly like she usually does, there’s a lack of aggression towards both of their actions. In fact, much of their quarrels seem less like battles to the death and more like sibling rivalry(then again, they are sisters).
Of course this is easily attributed to Kirakishou, and boy do we see how much of a prick she is. Because while the 1st half involves Shinku reading newspapers and Saitou getting along with Jun, the 2nd half of this ep is focused solely on Suigintou and her connection with her dying master Megu. She was barely shown in Rozen Maiden Traumend, but this ep shows just how desperate she was with pursuing death.
Suigintou initially approaches her with contempt, but much like in Traumend she begins to feel sorry for her pathetic state as a living being. As such, she tries to avoid making a contract with her so that she may live on, planning to win the Alice game without her help. But when Megu is at her worst state and agrees to give up her life for Suigintou, Kirakishou steals her via mirror, leaving her sacrifice to waste. And for the first time, Suigintou gets emotional.
It also had the perfect segue from serious to funny with Shinku cleaning up the mess by Jun’s order. It’s always nice to see the master have to be a servant for once. Plus there’s also the mystery with Shinku’s time limit and how to enter the N-world again. But we’ll have to wait for more ep to find out.
