A Certain Scientific Railgun S ep18 impressions

Hints of a larger experience and the return of ITEM show a promising finale, but this is mostly a relaxing ep celebrating the discharge of Banri. Thankfully the side characters get some much due screentime in this ep, making the uneventfullness somewhat worth it.

Haruue confesses that she’ll be living with Banri to help adjust her lifestyle to modern society, which means she’ll have to leave Uiharu. To celebrate, they’re preparing a small party with cake and presents. Unfortunately, problems around the city constantly call for Kuroko and Uiharu to do their duty as Judgement officers. It’s lonely without them, but of course trouble can’t keep these friends from eachother for long.

Like I said before, much of this ep is focused on reconfirming the bonds between these characters. Haruue has been buddies with Uiharu for quite a while after the rough events in Railgun season 1, and while this won’t exactly be their last time seeing eachother, it’s pretty clear that it still hurts to leave.

Uiharu’s insistence on getting the exact taiyaki that she got Haruue during her time of need really got this message across, and their reactions to it were just as sweet as the treats they were holding. Even Kuroko and Misaka share a moment when Misaka offers to give a massage to an overworked Kuroko (which of course, she takes the wrong way).

As for plot, this ep is quite short on that. What we do know is that there’s an annual competion between the smartest students of academy city(mostly non-espers) and that a group of esper-haters are getting ready to pull-off something really soon. We see ITEM ignorantly test their weapons for them while disguising it as a job, and we also see Hongou get severely criticized by one of them based on the dangers of using her powers against a pickpocket before he dissapears.

But of course the eye-opener is the cute loli who seems to be connected to it all, Febli. Seemingly too interested in sucking her lolipop(that’s not an inuendo), all she says is her name and Misaka Mikoto. Looks like we’ll be learning more about her, but until then keep sucking that lolipop Febli. 🙂
