EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING TOO FAST! Even the show admits it in a way, and it continues moving forward anyway.
With how the tournament was paced previously, it’s no surprise that the 2 devas, Inumaka and Jakuzure, weren’t as developed as Gamagoori and Sanageyama. After all, those two were given previous encounters to dive into their character before the final fight. On the other hand, both Inumaka’s and Jakuzure’s backstory is crammed into this one ep. We see everything we came for(new powers and backstory), but these two really fit the minor henchman role aside from their powers.
That pace seems to also expose a key flaw in the writing for this show: the infinite tricks senketsu has for each opponent. At first, Senketsu’s abilities ranged from acceleration to damage absorbtion. Even the spike transformation from Gamagoori’s battle was somewhat acceptable. But thanks to cramming two strong opponents in one eps, Senketsu’s advancements have gone into flat-out ridiculous territory. Even Aikuro says that it’s evolving too fast and poses a danger to Nudist Beach, which I don’t blame considering it can now cover an entire battlefield, sport out hook blades, or make Ryuuko fly astro boy style.
Though this does come off as a detriment, it doesn’t feel like what we’ve seen before was padded. From what we’ve seen, it doesn’t look like Inumaka and Jakuzure had as much motivation as the other two when it came to Satsuki’s plan. If anything, skimming over their backstories manage to save more time for the fights. And much like before, their powers are cool to look at and the solutions Ryuuko comes up with are both surprising and dumb.
So overall, this rushed pace doesn’t really bother me when it comes to entertainment. It makes several flaws in the writing more obvious, but it’s not done as a mistake. This show is just that shameless, and I hope it continues to do so.
