Remember the phrase “Don’t Judge a Book By It’s Cover”? Well continue doing that because you are going to judge something even if you realize it or not. But anyways, Rokujouma was one of the shows that I had one of the least expectations for. Think Infinite Stratos 2… no, no, no there is a large fan base for that. Um…. Wizard Barrister. There we go. By the way, that was some trip I had to go through…. in a bad way. I’m getting off track but yea i had low expectation for this anime but, thankfully, I was 100% wrong. Not only did this show pass me as an acceptable candy but it became one of my favorites in this season.
The story goes like this. A new tenant has entered the Rokujouma apartment that supposedly costs 5000 yen per month. This is like any college kids’ dream come true. I mean my college dorm cost around $50o a month and what he gets is about an equivalent to $50 rent. That PRICK. Also in Japan where everything costs more there then under the arms of Uncle Sam, there is a big no to this reality. Anyways, the hero, Kotaro Tatsumi, lives a simple life but then he gets hit by some magic nonsense I suppose when he is wokring and gets knocked out. After that he returns to his apartment to see a young girl who people seem to speculate is Nanana’s little sister. She wants him to leave the apartment while he wants to stay for the cheap rent.
Then comes another crashing through the windows who looks like a magical girl who is in fact a legit magical girl. She unconvincingly suggests the others to leave the area as there is a high concentrated magic lingering in that room. However no one in there believes she is a magical girl and is in fact a cosplayer. Then the tatami opens up to find another girl, introducing herself as one of the earth people, wanting the apartment room for herself to invade the surface world which Tatsumi immediately refuses even with the bribe of gold bars and VIP membership in the new world order and her tempting offer of her sexual charms.
Immediately after that, a human like alien princess comes through the wall and her tiny chest is greeted by Tatsumi’s face. After some conflict it has been shown that this room has been chose for the princess’s test to enslave the inhabitants in that coordinate. She decided to destroy the world after uuuhhhhh some incident but her assistant and I guess her adviser saves the day by convincing her that she will fail if she destroys earth.
Now the chess pieces are gathered: Sanae Higashihongan the ghost, Yurika Nijino the magical girl, Kiriha Kurano of the Earth People, Theiamillis Gre Fortorthe or Tulip the alien princess, and her servant, Ruthkhania Nye Pardomshiha. We have these over powered themes gathered in one room. Why aren’t they just using force to take over the room? Very simple actually. The landlady, Shizuka Kasagi, beat the crud out of them for destroy the room and made sign a treaty to make sure it will be solved diplomatically. And they COMPLY! This treaty is actually better than most treaties made by the UN right now!
Anyways, the reason why I love this so much is not because it a harem, although it has its perks, but it’s so energetic and loud and upbeat. It keeps the situation clear and straightforward with its arcs of each and every character introduced. And really I loved the adorable little characters that were involved in this matter. Each arc shows development towards their “love” to Tatsumi. However, I seriously think the definition of love is arguable as it could be more friendly love to sisterly love. But if this was a harem though, harem route though can’t imagine how it will go with a ghost.
The problem with the show is that it does not take advantage of everything that it has been set up. There could have been more possibilities with a ghost in the party or a magical girl but really nothing much happens in terms of its potential. I still love it though. One can say its my guilty pleasure here. And that ending. Oh man that brings some form of nostalgia out and I have no clue if I actually heard the song at a young age or not but it gives off that vibe and I’m loving every second of that song. So I would say this was a well worth my time watch and suggest it to people. However, I would totally understand if you see this as a generic harem anime because I can also see it that way as well. Either way, I’m re-watching this.
P.S. Rail Wars quick note. Episode 8-9 fun and actually entertaining. Rest suck monkey balls down the drain.
